We are in the Camargue, near the citadel of Aigues-Mortes. During a moonlit night, the corpse of a woman is found in the waters of the marshes surrounding the medieval citadel. The victim is Deanne Bréchet, a Paris-based storm trooper journalist who used to conduct investigations in the garb of financial intrigue. All clues seem to lead toward Fabienne Lacati, a researcher at the Sorbonne. On the night of the murder, Fabianne and Deanne were together and some patrons saw them arguing furiously. Yet Fabienne claims to be innocent, and in order to prove her extraneousness to the facts, she decides to dig into Deanne's life, determined to find elements that can prove her innocence, or, even, reveal the real culprit in the crime. Thus Fabienne discovers that in the previous days the journalist, in search of information about the Grey Penitents, had visited the Chapel of the Grey Penitents several times. Could the journalist have discovered some inconvenient secret?
