Vallauris is a town located between Antibes and Cannes, known for its production of artistic ceramics and home since 1968 to a major biennial dedicated to contemporary ceramics.
If already in Gallo-Roman times, refractory clay deposits provided material for making bricks and pots. Production over time evolved from ceramics intended for kitchen use to artistic ceramics, which flourished mainly thanks to the Messier family, which opened three ateliers and introduced colored glazes and metallic lustres into the work. È Pablo Picasso to innovate and create Vallauris’ fame. Picasso, who spent many of his years in the south of France, where he lived and worked between the mid-1940s until 1973, lived in Vallauris from 1948 to 1955. In the Madura atelier, he produced an output of about 4,000 original works, from sculptures to decorated plates and vases. The town boasts on the church square one of Picasso's few monuments: the bronze statue “L'Homme au mouton” donated by the artist in 1949.
The artists who will exhibit at Loano Are: Mireille Andelu, Jean Marie Baudet, Daniel Branchard, Marcel Giraud, Marc Piano.
