Preparations are in full swing for the seventh edition of Vibram® Maremontana - Cencin De Francesco Memorial, which will take place, in Loano, the April 3 p.m.

There will be three mountain running race routes with the novelty of the competition by 60 km with 3481 m of positive elevation gain that will cross 11 municipalities.

The sports event, is organized by the Maremontana ASD with contributions from the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano, in collaboration with the’Balla Coi Cinghiali Association, CAI Loano, CRI Loano, SMTS Liguria and ARI Loano. Title sponsor will again this year be the Vibram®, a world leader in the production and marketing of rubber soles. The event will also be supported by Eolo, Forst and Delbalzo Supermarkets.

Loano with its hinterland not only offers the opportunity to host world-class sporting events such as this one, but can increasingly represent an excellent base in the Ligurian outdoor tourism supply network.”

“They are already more than 400 the enrolled to the three competitions," says Councillor Remo Zaccaria - and these include Swiss, French, Russian and German athletes. Vibram® Maremontana, in fact, is also promoted abroad, with positive benefits for our nature-sports tourism. Along with the athletes will come the companions and families, who will stay in our city. We expect more than eight hundred arrivals that weekend. The program, in fact, offers next to the races an 11-kilometer, non-competitive, free-step walk aimed at enthusiasts of fitwalking and nordic walking. A nice opportunity to spend a pleasant Sunday outdoors, engaging in the art of walking.”

Registration is open until March 28. The race routes for the mountain run are:

  • trail 20K 986 D+, low-medium difficulty on a very runnable course and partially modified from last year's edition;
  • trail 45K 2514 D+, average difficulty on the 2015 route with some interesting and spectacular new features and a few fewer kilometers;
  • trail 60K 3481 D+, medium-high difficulty partly on the route of the 2015 49K with a beautiful descent and ascent in a new area never before touched by the race, the beautiful Ibà Valley.

The Vibram® Maremontana Races 60K trail and 45K trail have been included among the qualifying competitions for the’Ultra Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) and the Cro-Trail.

Enthusiasts of fitwalking and nordic walking this year they will be able to try their hand at a 11 km, 242 D+ non-competitive walk to be walked at a leisurely pace on hilly and scenic roads and trails to which it will be possible to register up to an hour before the start.

Nourished, again this year, is the proposal of side initiatives. Saturday, April 2 you can participate in the guided tour exploring the city (departure hours 15.30, reservations required at info@maremontana.it). Also on Saturday afternoon on the waterfront, in the bib pickup area in the Maccagli Garden Space, will be set up the Sports Village with exhibition booths, presentations of technical items and musical entertainment. From 18.00, in the elementary school gymnasium of Corso Europa 36 a yoga class will be held for athletes (reservations required at info.yogando@gmail.com).

La Vibram® Maremontana also joins this year's Short Circuit Solidarity organized by I Run for Find The Cure, pledging to support with part of the income from memberships the project to support the SHERP (Samburu Handicapped and Rehabilitation Program) hostel in Maralal (Kenya), which houses and cares for 125 children from all over Samburu County with severe disabilities.

Vibram® Maremontana 2016 is also a partner in the solidarity project “I run because I have marrow.” promoted by the’ADMO (Bone Marrow Donor Association) Emilia Romagna.
