Sunday, July 26, a Loano, l’Prince's Garden Summer Arena will host the’OBudapest Gypsy Orchestra directed by one of the most influential figures in the Eastern European music scene, Antal Szalai.
The concert is part of the summer music season, promoted by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano and organizedby the I.So THeatre with the artistic direction of Luca Malvicini.
The concert will provide an opportunity for the audience to discover the sounds of traditional Hungarian music, better known as “gipsy” music.
Reformation-era national music, traditional tsardas music and arrangements of folk songs will be performed.
Antal Szalai is considered the best tzigan violin soloist in the world. He comes from a family of Gypsy musicians and studied the violin at the famous “Bela Bartok” Conservatory in Hungary. He began his concert activity in 1963 with the Honbed Orchestra and in 1969 founded, together with other established musicians, the’Budapest Gypsy Orchestra. The intent of the group is to propose and enhance the orchestral repertoire of tzigan music.Since their first appearances, they have gained much recognition and success with both critics and audiences, quickly becoming the most popular Hungarian orchestra.
Throughout his career Antal Szalai won the prestigious “Liszt Ferenc” award. He carries out an intense artistic activity alternating between concerts, television performances and recordings. Together with the Budapest Tzigana Orchestra he performs more than a hundred concerts each year at home and around the world.
