PRESS RELEASE (24/2/2015)

Wednesday, February 25, at 17.15, at Civic Library a Loano, will continue the series of meetings for parents and children “FACE TO FACE MOM AND BABY”,promoted by the’Department of Social Services of the City of Loano as part of family policies related to “city times,” and organized by the’No Head Start Association.

The conference, which will feature psychologists and psychotherapists, will be devoted to the topic of self-esteem in children and their relationship with their mother and primary caregivers. The aim is to deepen the knowledge of important factors in the child's psychological health and to offer parents indicators for recognizing and understanding signs and needs.

There are several studies on the subject," the organizers explain, "Klaus and Kennell (1975), Robson and Kumar (1980) and Schaffer (1975) demonstrated the role of Mother-Child Attunement as a pivotal element in attachment development and as a predictor of development. It was then the studies of Main and Weston (1981), based on the use of the Strange Situation, that emphasized that the paternal role is also crucial and that mother and father may have different attachment styles with the child.

Parents” fundamental role, for Bowlby (a psychoanalytic psychologist who developed attachment theory), is to provide a Safe Base for their children, thus allowing them progressive autonomy but considering that they constantly need parental support."
