Massimo Ansaldo, organized by the’Young Liguria Association under the auspices of the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano and of the Liguria Region.

Massimo Ansaldo will present his new novel “The Sign of Salt” (2016, Leucotea Editions) an engaging detective story that unravels among village characters, the Mafia and strange murders.

The story takes place in Campiglia a town close to the Gulf of Poets and the Cinque Terre. Inexplicable fatal incidents bedevil Holy Week and lead Commissioner Iurato to search for the truth among the silences and omertà of the village families. The bloody events appear linked to what had happened in 1940 in those places and had involved the Durante and Roversi families, who had been devoured by mutual hatred for more than fifty years. The murder, then, of Giovanbattista Durante had involved Mario Roversi, who had fled to Argentina.

What links that tragic event to today's dead? What lies behind the resurfacing of the mysterious “salt sign”?

Personal and economic interests are still at stake, and fear of an inconvenient truth causes many not to mull over the past. To break the trail of blood and bring justice to the dead, the imaginative and brilliant Commissioner Iurato will have until Easter. And he will have to use every means, even the help of a sick old underworld boss.

Massimo Ansaldo was born in Varazze in 1959 and lives in La Spezia. He practices law with offices in Genoa and La Spezia. In 2014 he published the mystery novel “Macerie” for Edizioni Leucotea.
