Loano will take a dip into the past with the Renaissance Festival Which, Saturday, May 20,  will reenact the Proclamation of Loano as an independent county occurred in the 1575 in the presence of Loano Counts Gianandrea Doria and Zenobia Del Carretto Doria.

The initiative, promoted by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano and organized by the’Pro Musica Antiqua Association with the contribution of the A. Foundation De Mari, will kick off at 4 p.m..

The historical event will be relived with the reading of the edict accompanied by the fanfares of the county trumpeters, troop movements, salvoes of arquebuses and the historical parade through the downtown streets with the dance group The Graties of Love, the Flos Duellatorum company of arms, the Campanassa historical group and the’Sandro Pertini High School's trumpet ensemble.

Also taking us back in time will be performances of Renaissance song, music and dance, on the theme of the triumph of courtly love, featuring the’ensemble Pro Musica Antiqua and the Ancient Dance Group “Le Grazie D'Amore” of Lavagna, in the precious and flamboyant artistic costumes, the result of a rigorous and accurate historical reconstruction.

In the heart of the Renaissance Loano, in front of the Doria palace, you will relive the atmosphere of the festivals of the time: songs and sonatas, saltarellos and low dances, choreography now simple now complex, parades amid garlands of flowers, jousts of woven ribbons, clamor of sticks in daring tenuces, glow of dancing flashlights.

The program in detail includes at 4 p.m. the start of the event in Italy Square, in front of Palazzo Doria: grand fanfare of court trumpets, figurants, armigers and dancers will welcome the Proclamation of the constitution of the independent county of Loano. Then will follow the historical parade in Renaissance costume in the downtown.

At 17.00 in Italy Square armigers will initiate military maneuvers in honor of the House of Doria with the presence of nobles, gunmen and salvoes of arquebuses.

At 17.30, always in Italy Square, in the presence of the Count of Loano Gian Andrea Doria and his consort Zenobia Del Carretto Doria will stage the “Grand show of singing music and dancing in the square”, re-enactment of the historic moment, as per period reports, with music and dance performed in their honor.

The event will close at the 19.00 with proclamations and good wishes to the House of Doria and the independent County of Loano and grand fanfare of the court trumpets.

The Association “Pro Musica Antiqua” aims at the preservation and popularization of historical, cultural and artistic heritage, especially musical heritage. The group consists of musicians who use ancient instruments such as: dulciana, bombard, cornetto, flute, encapsulated reed instruments, viella, viola and other stringed instruments, percussion, theorbo, harpsichord, portative organ, (strictly all copies of original instruments). It also consists of singers specializing in early music and a historical dance group. Concerts and performances are made following as closely as possible the principles of philology and performance practice of the period.{:}
