Saturday, April 8, a Loano, will kick off the tenth edition of “Flying Disks...Close Encounters with Records, Books, Words and Sounds.”, promoted by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano and organized by the’Society of the Curious Association.

Opening the 2017 edition of the festival of meetings with musicians, songwriters and music journalists will be the Northwest Italy territorial concert-selection of the “Playing@Folkest - Alberto Cesa Award“, which will entitle them to participate in the final evenings of Folkest 2017, the historic festival held in Friuli.

Three bands acquired the right to participate in the selection: Maz Vilander & Makadam Zena, The London Pride, The Archimedes, but only two will compete musically on the Loano evening. In fact, the Albenga band The London Pride for reasons of force majeure will not be present on the night.

From the hours 21.00, in the Civic Library in Doria Palace, will get into the thick of the competition between the two competing bands.

Chamber formation, The Archimedes move through different musical genres and styles following a free approach towards music, from classical to folk via jazz, early music and other genres. The acoustic sound of strings (violin, cello and double bass) becomes an ideal ground for exploring distant musical worlds that, combined together, create an original musical project. The arrangements, born from the interaction of the different personalities of the individual members, thus end up finding themselves in an unusual balance between improvisation and chamber music.

The ensemble, formed by Andrea Bertino (violin), Luca Panicciari (cello), and Giorgio Boffa (double bass), has performed in numerous venues and theaters in Piedmont (Teatro Civico in Vercelli, “Festival Giovani Aironi,” and the Diavolo Rosso in Asti) and has participated in several music festivals and reviews (Alba Music Festival, Gus.To, Festival Altre Note in Usseaux, Bergolo Music Review “Il suono della pietra 2016”).

Maz Vilander & Makadam Zena are a band formed in 2011 from an idea of Maz Vilander, born Matteo Cavanna, who grew up on bread, reggae and Genoese dialect. The band brings the dialect of the Ligurian capital to music by combining it with a Jamaican rhythmic reinterpreted in an original way. In their tales are stories related to new and old generations, with a view to renewing tradition.

They have played in numerous concerts, events and festivals around Italy and have shared the stage with important artists from the national and international music scene (The Toasters, Bunna and Africa Unite, Zibba, Skardy and Pitura Freska, Raphael).

Thanks in part to the artistic and musical support of Federico Regesta (aka “Reggaesta”), they have won numerous awards: in 2014 they won the “Capitalent” of Radio Capital, in the 2015 were included in the compilation “Undercover” by Radio Capital, in the 2016 were finalists with rapper SEO in the Contest “Under Fred's Sky.” in Turin and the “Red Contest” of Perignano won second place and received the “Luigi Nista” critics' award for best socially engaged lyrics.

The evening will be conducted by journalist Alfredo Sgarlato.

The review will continue on April 22 With internationally renowned composer and musician Vincenzo Zitello who will present his latest musical project “Metamorphose XII” (2017, Telenn). The review will close on May 13 with the singer-songwriter Diodate. The artist, who participated in the 2014 Sanremo Festival in the “new entries” category and was a guest for several consecutive episodes of the program “Che tempo che fa” hosted by Fabio Fazio, will present his latest album “What have we become” (2017, Carousel Records).
