Saturday, March 11 and Sunday, March 12, a Loano, the first round of the Italian Twirling Championship Series A, organized by the’A.S.D. Twirling Voltri Mele under the auspices of the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano.
For two days in the E. Garassini Sports Hall will compete 28 society from all over Italy for a total of about 350 athletes.
Italy's strongest clubs will take the field to win qualification for the European Championships and the International Grand Prix.
“Loano city of sports," says Councillor Remo Zaccaria - is a coveted venue for Twirling competitions. Our arena, event organizers tell us, is one of the facilities in Liguria best suited to host this sport. And that is why A.S.D. Twirling Voltri Mele, despite being from Genoa, has been organizing national-level competitions at Loano for many years. Good attendance is expected again this year over the weekend, which will see a substantial presence of athletes and accompanying persons at Loano.”.
Saturday 11 selections will be held to qualify for the Grand Prix and International Cup which will take place in Croatia from August 4 to 13. Sunday will be dedicated to the first classification phase for the European Championships to be held in Italy in Busto Arsizio (Varese ) from July 5 to 9. On that occasion Italy will face the best European nations, contrasting France with which it has always shared the podium, and the Italian Senior Champion, Ilaria Interligi of Nova Milanese, will have to defend the title won two years ago in Slovenia.
“This year's competitions," say the organizers, "will have extra value for our society, which for the first time will have a representative team and a soloist competing: Greta Paladino junior individual and Team Junior consisting of five athletes (Danise Matilde, De Rosa Manuela, Kimberli Laci, Greta Paladino and Chiara Puppo) in his major league debut.
Of course, for the first year in the big leagues, the expectations are to put on a performance to the best of our abilities against opponents who have years of experience. Any result will be welcome.”
Twirling is a gymnastic discipline, both men's and women's, that combines the technique of the movement of the apparatus (the stick) with the body movements of both artistic, rhythmic, acrobatic and dance. It is a complete sport that is distinguished by its ability to combine technical difficulty with interpretation of the musical piece on which the exercise is performed.
There are various specialties: the individual, the pair called duo, the team team from 5 to 9 elements and the group from 10 elements and up.
Categories are divided by age: cadets 8-11 years, juniors 12-16 years and seniors 16 and over. Series membership depends on the difficulties presented, Series C, Series B and Series A from which the Italian national team is selected.
