PRESS RELEASE (11/1/2017)

Thursday, January 12 will kick off the new edition of “Loano not only sea”, curated by the Loano section of the C.A.I.. under the auspices of the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Municipality of Loano.

The outdoor hiking program will provide an opportunity to discover and appreciate the natural and architectural heritage of the Ligurian hinterland. The goal of the project is to promote hiking as an opportunity for socialization, personal well-being, knowledge and appreciation of the area.

The hiking review will open with a soft itinerary exploring the historic center of Finalborgo and environs.

Explain Beppe Peretti, Loano's CAI hiking guide: “Loano not only sea starts again with an excursion that, in the wake of a tradition that has been going on for several years now, includes a visit, knowledge and in-depth study of a location in western Liguria. Accompanied by a specialized guide, we will visit the ancient capital of the marquisate of Finale: the church of San Biagio, the carrugi and small squares of the historic center, the cloisters of the convent of Santa Caterina, etc. From here we will go up the Beretta path (named after the builder) also known as the Queen's path (for whose passage it was built) and arrive at Sant'Eusebio, an ancient church in Perti dating back to the Middle Ages, with a striking and interesting Romanesque crypt. A lunch stop is also planned here, with the possibility of shelter in case of bad weather. In the afternoon our excursion will continue with a visit (also guided) to the restored Castel Gavone, residence and stronghold of the Del Carretto marquises, lords of Finale, and will conclude by returning to Finalborgo with a loop itinerary.”

Participants of the walk will meet at the 8:30 a.m, possibly with own car, in Valerga Square at Loano.

The excursions are free and practicable by those with a fair amount of mountain walking training. For non-members of CAI, personal accident insurance is mandatory and must be taken out before the trip.
