PRESS RELEASE (11/23/2016)

Approved at Loano The first proposal for the “adoption” of an urban space.

To be assigned is the’green area of municipal property located in Cadorna Square, at the foot of the seventeenth-century loggia.

The adoption project was presented by the Pro Loco of Loano which intends to upgrade the flowerbed by cleaning the area and planting a small tree and seasonal flowers. In addition, the project includes the construction of a wooden fence in order to prevent animals and people from entering the area.

The “Adopt Your Space”, sponsored by the’Heritage Department of the City of Loano aims to implement a program of environmental redevelopment and enhancement of the city. The initiative involves assigning municipal green spaces and areas for public use to private individuals for “adoption.”.

“Citizens, associations, businesses, banks," explains the Assessor of Heritage Enrica Rocca - may submit a project to restore forgotten or no longer fully usable corners with the intention of rediscovering their environmental, social, historical and cultural value and making them accessible to all.

The Administration in this first pilot phase of the project has identified four spaces: the corner flowerbed of Piazzale Cadorna, placed at the foot of the seventeenth-century loggia, the entrance to Leone Grossi Park, the flowerbed behind San Giovanni Parish, on the side of the gardens dedicated to Don Lanteri and Don Parodi, the connecting corridor leading from the arcades of Via Stella to Corso Europa.”

“We are very pleased with this first adoption," says Mayor Luigi Pignocca - the intent of the project is to involve citizens in the active management of common goods. Those who live or work in Loano can improve the quality of public spaces by participating firsthand and becoming active players in urban decorum. We hope that in a short time the other identified places will also be adopted.”
