THE ATHLETES.
Last year was dominated by the Dutch Marianne Vos (winner of four stages already scored in the 2011 and 2012 editions) ahead of France's Pauline Ferrand Prevot, her teammate in the Rabo Liv, who was then able to hit the world title at the end of the season. Vos's three wins, however, do not represent the record, held instead at the Pisan Fabia Luperini, who after consecutive poker from 1995 to 1998 was able to win her fifth overall victory in 2008, the last Italian to enter the roll of honor. Before her, only three other Italians signed the most important stage race on the women's calendar: Maria Canins in the inaugural edition (1988), followed by Roberta Bonanomi (1989) and the late Michela Fanini (1994).
This year, almost certainly absent is Marianne Vos, good things can be done by young star Ferrand-Prèvot and the usual Van Vleuten, Van der Breggene and Brand. But the other girls will not leave undefeated. Especially Mara Abbott, a 29-year-old from Colorado who was a winner in 2010 and 2013 when she completed a resounding performance on the Beigua climb in Varazze. Evelyn Stevens is another girl always in the very top positions When there is hard running to be done. Also watch out for Claudia Häusler, Emma Johansson and Emma Pooley., because of their respective palmarès and the undoubted qualities displayed in the season, are to be underestimated. And the Italians? Great things we expect from Elisa Longo Borghini, and from Rossella Ratto.
ATHLETE LIGURE.
The only Ligurian in the competition is the Sanremese Ilaria Sanguineti, class of 1994 who will compete for the Team BePink-LaClassica In what is one of the most prestigious appointments of the season, representing the formation directed by Team Manager Walter Zini will be the Lombardy Silvia Valsecchi, the Ligurian Ilaria Sanguineti, the Lazio Giorgia Fraiegari, the Russian Anastasia Chulkova (fresh off a fifth-place finish in Fiorenzuola d'Arda in the Omnium), Romania's Ana Covrig and the New Zealanders Jaime Nielsen, Ruby Livingstone and Georgia Williams.
