PRESS RELEASE (17/12/2014)
Over the long pre-Christmas weekend, in Loano, two meetings with the author are scheduled as part of the “Books Under the Tree”, promoted by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Municipality of Loano.
Friday, December 19, in the Civic Library, to the 5 p.m., host of the review will be the journalist Marco Fantasiawho will present the book “A Smiling History - The Rai of Genoa told from its origins.”.
In dialogue with the author will be Christian Bosco, who together with the commentator and anchor of Rai Sport will bring to light the history of Rai's regional headquarters for Liguria.
The book's introduction reads, “It was announcer Lea Landi who coined the expression “a smiling story” to describe her experience at Radio Genova, what would later become Rai's regional headquarters for Liguria. They were smiles especially in the beginning, when the pioneering aspect dominated over any difficulties. And we are talking about no small difficulties, in the Genoa that was coming out of the war and that precisely through the frequencies of “his” radio learned of the liberation that had taken place, thanks to the facilities taken from the war by the heroic Franco Tommasino. A story that finally comes to light (certainly incomplete, certainly still to be enriched) thanks to the memories and documents of Cesare Viazzi, who for so many crucial years was a journalist, editor-in-chief and finally director of the station.
From the earliest radio-only broadcasts to the advent of TV, from Marzari to Provenzali, from radio theater to today's news broadcasts, the book tries to tell, without pretending to be exhaustive, small and big stories of the many characters who have merged their lives with those of the headquarters.”
The introduction to the essay is by Felice Rossello. Marco Fantasia was born in Genoa. After a solid background in Genovese local broadcasting, he first set foot at RAI in Genoa on a two-month contract and made it to permanent employment after eleven years as a temp. He was anchor of the regional news and the Ligurian edition of Good morning Region. Since 2012 he has been working in the Milan newsroom of Rai Sport, mainly as a commentator and news anchor.
Sunday, December 21, to the 16.00, in the Civic Library, will be presented the book “On the other side” by the journalististaloanese Luca Berto, published by the Municipality of Loano. Leading the meeting will be the curator of the reviewGraziella Frasca Gallo Of the Journal of Loano.
The genre this time is the detective story: “On a gray Loano in early November, a mysterious and disturbing disappearance takes place: while on the Costino di Monte Carmelo, young girlfriends Maddalena Cielo and Alessandro Oliva disappear into thin air, leaving behind only a pool of blood and no clues. Investigating the affair, each in their own way, will be Carabinieri marshal Stephen Picasso, Alexander's father and well-known entrepreneur with a dark past. Gianpiero Oliva and Magdalene's journalist brother Luke Sky. The latter, after a long and arduous search, will discover how the disappearance of his sister and her fiancé is inextricably linked to a millennia-old secret that has run throughout the history of the town in which he was born and raised and has returned to threaten the world. The novel is set in Loano and is based on facts and events gleaned from the history and cultural heritage of the coastal town.”“The story spans several genres. - explains the author Luca Berto - It is a detective story, because it narrates the search for the truth about the sudden disappearance of an engaged couple. It is a historical-anthropological tale, because (apart from some necessary narrative licenses) it exposes historical events that actually happened and refers to traditions and folk tales that are part of Loano's past. With this in mind, the plot's complex historical reconstruction brings to light events and facts that the local collective memory has set aside or forgotten, linking them together in a verisimilar way and demonstrating how sometimes History (especially local History, always so rich in curious and original legends) can be fascinating and capable of surpassing fantasy. But ’On the Other Side’ is also an example of “counter-history” because it elaborates and mixes elements of pure invention with authentic historical facts, creating a very plausible and realistic plot.“
Luca Berto was born in Albenga in 1983. After graduating in modern literature from the University of Genoa and a master's degree in multimedia communication at the Savona campus, he began collaborating with several Ligurian newspapers. In 2011 he landed at the Savona editorial office of Il Secolo XIX, with which he still collaborates as a “correspondent” from the Loano area.
Soundtracking the two meetings will be the musical accompaniment of maestro Roberto Sinito.
