Thursday, July 11, at Loano, in the’Prince's Garden Summer Arena, the second evening of the opera review dedicated to the bicentenary of Giuseppe Verdi's birth, promoted by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano and organized by the I.So THeatre.

At 9:30 pm, will be staged  La Traviata, three-act opera from the “popular trilogy,” inspired by Alexandre Dumas son Alexandre Dumas“ ”La dame aux camélias," with libretto by Francesco Maria Piave.

One of the most performed operas in the world, its performance will provide an opportunity to rediscover the magical atmosphere of Verdi's Music and bring to life the drama of the tragic story of Violetta Valery, a romantic heroine. Verdi's opera faithfully follows Dumas' text and especially the spirit of the French writer's drama. La Traviata encountered censorship both before and after its debut. The melodrama debuted in 1853 at La Fenice in Venice, proving to be a resounding flop. The following year Verdi altered, albeit slightly, the score to suit the new singers, and in May 1854 the opera was performed at the Teatro San Benedetto in Venice, finally achieving a well-deserved success. For the first time Verdi uses a narrative technique unusual for melodrama at the time. The listener is led by the hand on a journey back in time, during Parisian festivities, in a situation of euphoric gaiety that contrasts with the image of Violetta lying ill in her bed. The very theme of consumption, a fashionable romantic disease that afflicts Violetta, inspired Verdi's highest musical pages.

The opera will be performed by Maria Teresa Patta (Violetta), Lucia Eusebi (Flora), Marta Camilla Della Porta (Annina), Maurizio Tonini (Alfredo), Simone Baldazzi (Germont), Baron Douphol (Stefano Maneddu), Victor Andrini (Marquis D'Obligny), Stephen Arnaudo (Dr. Grenvil), accompanied by the’Italian Philharmonic Orchestra.
