Saturday, June 17 a Loano will close the festival “Young Concert Artists” organized by the’S.M. Immaculate Music Association under the auspices of the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano.

The review, directed by the Master Davide Nari, will see guest speaker at 9:15 p.m., in the Council Chamber of Palazzo Doria, the percussionist Loris Lombardo.

The show by Loris Lombardo will feature the’handpan (hang), a very rare instrument of Swiss derivation with ancient and oriental sounds, although it is one of the newest instruments. Loris is a researcher of sounds, musical timbres and instruments from all over the world, he mixes various styles derived from different traditions and proposes in his show a sound journey in which the’handpan meets other instruments such as: tabla, darbuka, cajon, udu, nuts, shells, etc. This project won first prize at Percfest, the European Percussion Festival. On March 17, 2017, Loris took his performance to the television program Italy's Got Talent, achieving a resounding success and standing ovation, acclaimed by the audience and praised by the jury (from which he received unanimous approval) composed of Claudio Bisio, Luciana Littizzetto, Nina Zilli and Frank Matano. In the performance he performed one of his own compositions, which featured the handpan/hang as the lead instrument, flanked by ethnic percussion instruments derived from around the world. Also, in March, he published his book “Handpan Manuale Completo,” the world's first manual dedicated to the study of handpan techniques. This includes a DVD, in which all the exercises explained in the text are performed. It will soon be published abroad as well.

 

Loris Lombardo graduated with honors in classical percussion from the G.F. Ghedini Conservatory in Cuneo and in drums from the NAM school with Tullio De Piscopo, the Soncino Percussion Academy and the Ultimate Drum Experience in London. He later devoted himself to the study of Indian, Turkish, Middle Eastern percussion and deriving from every tradition in the world. Numerous collaborations with atri artists include Andrea Braido, Orchestra della Magna Grecia soloist with singer Simona Molinari, Antonio Marangolo, Clara Moroni (Vasco Rossi), Beppe Gambetta, Carlo Aonzo, Marlene Kuntz, Richard Barbieri, Max Manfredi, Fabio Zuffanti and others. He has taken his solo show named “Handpan & Percussions Concert” to various theaters in Italy, England and Germany and has recorded 17 CDs including 1 solo. He is director and teacher of the civic school Suoni dal Mondo Music Academy, where he opened the first teaching section dedicated to the study of handpan/hang. He writes articles for top national percussion and drumming teaching journals Drumsetmag and Planetdrum.
