Saturday, May 27, a Loano, to the 4 p.m.,  in the Civic Library in Kursaal Palace will be held the presentation of the book “EWho of a bankruptcy Bank M. Garibaldi & C. Economy Finance Territories”, organized by the’UNITRE of Loano under the auspices of the Municipality of Loano.

The volume of Enzo Ferrari is the result of careful research that the author carried out in several libraries, in the local state archives of Imperia, Ventimiglia, San Remo, Savona and central Rome, in the historical archives of the Bank of Italy in Rome, the former Banca Commerciale in Milan, the Cassa di Risparmio di Genova and the Banco di Napoli.

Original documents (official reports, letters, journalistic accounts, notes and confidential notes) have been included in the book, which is embellished with a preface by Prof. Andrea Zanini (University of Genoa - Department of Economics).

Enzo Ferrari who will dialogue with the president of UNITRE Loano Umberta Bolognesi Galati reconstructed the history of the bankruptcy of Banca M. Garibaldi & C., a banking institution based in Porto Maurizio that was well embedded in the economic and financial fabric of the Ponente at the turn of the 20th century. Thirteen branches and an “address” were opened over the years from Finale Ligure to Ventimiglia. The institution in a few decades of activity facilitated the creation and development of several oil, industrial, hotel, construction and commercial enterprises.

Its collapse in 1926 affected many of these companies and put in trouble a high number of savers who would recover only a fraction of their assets. Long bankruptcy proceedings dragged on for almost fifteen years because of the large number of those affected, the difficulties in recovering debts, and the many obstacles placed in the way.

An episode nearly a century ago that affected thousands of families and hundreds of businesses.
