{:en}PRESS RELEASE (8/05/2017)
For the eighth consecutive year Loano gets for its beaches the Blue Flag. The award was presented today in Rome to Mayor Luigi Pignocca.
“It was a morning of renewed satisfaction," declared Mayor Luigi Pignocca - because again this year we got double recognition: we were awarded the Blue Flag for the beaches of Loano and for the sixth year we are celebrating the Blue Flag of the Loano Marina as well. I want to thank the Technical Department and especially the Environment Department, which together with the Loano Marina prepared the applications, doing a great job. A symbol of water quality, environmental services and hospitality offered by our city, the Blue Flag is a recognition of the best beaches in Europe.
The banner was also presented to Ceriale, Pietra Ligure, Borghetto S.S. and Finale Ligure, decreeing the success of an entire district that can boast a symbol of quality, recognizable in Italy and abroad.”
La Blue Flag was established in 1987, the European Year for the Environment. The Campaign is overseen in the various countries by FEE, Foundation for Environmental Education.
It is an award given to European coastal resorts that meet quality criteria related to bathing water parameters and the service offered, taking into consideration, for example, the cleanliness of beaches and tourist landings.
The Blue Flag is awarded for two merits: the Blue Flag for beaches certifies the quality of bathing waters and lidos, while the Blue Flag for marinas ensures the cleanliness of waters adjacent to ports and the absence of sewage discharges.{:}
