{:en}PRESS RELEASE (5/4/2017)
Thursday, April 6 will be proposed, at Loano, one of the most classic excursions in the “Loano not only sea”, curated by the Loano section of the C.A.I.. under the auspices of the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Municipality of Loano.
This week's destination will be the’Abbey of San Pietro in Varatella in Toirano.
The meeting for participants will be at 8:30 a.m. In the Valerga Square parking lot at Loano.
“The itinerary we have chosen for Thursday," explains Beppe Peretti, CAI hiking companion of Loano-along with that of Carmo, Pian delle Bosse and a few others, is revived every year because of its historical and cultural importance.
In fact, St. Peter's is the abbey par excellence in this part of western Liguria, the most important and oldest abbey from which the Benedictines first and the Carthusians later carried on their work of evangelization and promotion of the territory by encouraging agriculture (olive groves, vegetable gardens, orchards) and the construction of mills, olive presses and paper mills throughout the area, and particularly in the Touran area. Participants will be able to choose from three routes to reach San Pietro.”.
The excursion is free. For non-CAI members to participate in the outing, accident and mountain rescue insurance is required, which must be requested by noon on the day before the activity is to be held by calling 019.67.23.66 or 349.78.54.220.
