Friday, March 10, always in Council Chamber, to the 5 p.m., Pier Franco Quaglieni will present the book “Figures of Civil Italy.” with the introduction of Maria Vittoria Barroero, president of the DLF Albenga Association, and the president of UNITRE Loano. Betty Bolognesi.

The book's introduction reads, ”The book sketches the figures of important personalities in 20th-century Italian culture and politics from Einaudi to Giovanni Amendola, from Marchesi to Soleri, from Calamandrei to Chabod, from Burzio to Adriano Olivetti, from Ernesto Rossi to Balbo di Vinadio. The largest part of the book concerns the ‘friends and masters“ the author knew and frequented: Jemolo, Bobbio, Galante Garrone, Montanelli, Valiani, Venturi, Casalegno, Alda Croce, Primo Levi, Ciampi, Luraghi, Romeo, Spadolini, Pininfarina, Ronchey, Tortora, and Pannella. Two very dense chapters conclude the book, those dedicated to Soldati and Pannunzio. These are writings that Quaglieni enriches by reconstructing the history of the relationship between the ”Pannunzio“ Center and the various personalities who animate the book. The figures outlined are often recalled with completely unprecedented and unconventional episodes, in some cases even politically ”uncorrect,“ but always historically balanced. What emerges is a well-rounded portrait of civilized Italy, which the author believes should be rediscovered and enhanced as an indispensable cultural heritage also for the future of the new generations.”.

Finally, Saturday, March 11, to the 4 p.m. in Council Chamber, a lecture with slide shows entitled “Walking the Via Francigena - from Canterbury to the Alps, on the roads of England, France and Switzerland”.

Curating the meeting will be Beppe Peretti, CAI hiking companion of Loano.

Passionate about mountains and trekking, Peretti, through storytelling and images, will introduce those present to the Ancient Way that in the Middle Ages joined Canterbury to Rome, now rediscovered by modern wayfarers who set out along a splendid and surprising route.

Currently vice-president of the CAI Section of Loano, Peretti has achieved within the association the qualification of AE (hiking guide). In more than two decades of activity he has achieved a deep knowledge of the culture and territory of western Liguria and its hinterland, the Ligurian Alps and the Cuneo area. He is currently engaged as a group leader for CAI. He also curates the ’Not Only Sea“ initiative, organized under the patronage of the City of Loano, which promotes hikes inland each week with a high number of participants.
