“The exhibition in Palazzo Doria of the artifacts made by the children," says Mayor Luigi Pignocca - is part of a broader environmental education project that has seen collaboration between the City of Loano and the school for many years. On the occasion of the start of door-to-door collection, efforts were strengthened in order to raise awareness and involve families in the new waste management system, starting with the youngest citizens.“.
“Together with the municipality," explain the Loano Primary School teachers - a project was developed with which we wanted to help build a culture towards the “waste” problem so as to support and foster compatible social and economic development for current and future generations.
The initiative of an awareness-raising course on the topic of waste was aimed at ensuring active and conscious participation by schoolchildren and the general public in the recycling collection programs that have been activated in our area. After welcoming at school sector operators who informed our pupils about what separate waste collection is, various activities were carried out in the classroom to probe knowledge, sensitivity and attitudes towards waste and to lead pupils to reflect on the “alternative possibilities” that an object acquires if one pauses to think about the possibility of reusing it. The intent was, in fact, to solicit the ability to see beyond what is before our eyes or what we are used to seeing. The children in this regard have given us a lot: an empty plastic bottle can in fact be seen as a strange character, a piggy bank, a pencil holder, a dragonfly....”.
Since last year, the City of Loano has supported many activities in the school on the topic of recycling. A drawing contest was organized and one work was selected for each class and presented at the Eco-Schools party. In all, 20 drawings were selected and awarded prizes (one for each class in the Primary School of Loano Plesso Valerga and Plesso Milanesi).
“Through this initiative and many others that will follow," says Environment Councillor Manuela Zunino - we intend to make children participants in the life of our community and active citizens in recycling collection. For this reason, we also organized meetings with experts within schools and promoted workshops in which pupils “imagined” and built objects with recycled materials, which will be displayed in the Recycle to Art exhibition.”.
“For many years," says Vice Mayor Luca Lettieri - Loano schools are participating in the Eco-Schools network's annual campaign, obtaining the Green Flag recognition that attests to the school community's commitment to reducing its environmental impact. Through the new initiatives, carried out and to be carried out in collaboration with the Department of the Environment, pupils have learned and will learn about the different types of waste, the life cycles of materials and the ways in which separate waste collection is implemented in the city. On January 24 and 25, exclusively for elementary school pupils, the play “The Accordion” which chronicles the encounter between an eccentric ecological worker and an artist with ambitions in search of a solution to clean up the world.”
