PRESS RELEASE (2/12/2016)
Saturday, December 3, a Loano, to the 3:30 pm, at Council Chamber in Doria Palace, a conference entitled “Friendship in Philosophy.”, organized by the’UNITRE of Loano under the auspices of the Municipality of Loano.
Delving into the topic will be the Prof. Mauro Letterio, Full Professor of History of Philosophy at the School of Humanities at the University of Genoa, who explains the theme as follows, “Philosophy has always paid much attention to human feelings and relationships, particularly friendship, generally attributing to it a broader meaning and value than those usually given to it today. Especially in the ancient world, friendship was considered the highest and richest human relationship (think of what Aristotle says about it in the Nicomachean Ethics). This positive consideration of friendship was then taken up again in medieval thought (enriched with the typical features of the Christian conception of man and the divine) and in that of modernity (in which the psychological aspects of this feeling have been particularly strongly emphasized).”.
Mauro Letterio is a member of the faculty of the FINO Consortium, Ph.D. in Philosophy, is deputy director of DAFIST (Department of Antiquities, Philosophy, History), deputy coordinator of the Master's Degree Program in Philosophical Methodologies and a member of the Council of the School of Humanities. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of several series and journals.
He is a corresponding member of the Ligurian Academy of Sciences and Letters and a member of the Inter-University Research Aretai Center on Virtues.
