Everything is ready at Loano for the review “September Sports at Loano”, which this year is enriched with new and important events, promoted by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano in collaboration with the Loano sports clubs.
“From September until the end of October," says the Councilor for Tourism, Culture, and Sports of the Municipality of Loano Remo Zaccaria – Loano returns to being the capital of sport with national and international events. Alongside well-established sporting events, we will host new events that will put the spotlight on our sports facilities and our hospitality. Athletes, coaches, and many fans will come to Loano. Sport, which we have been focusing on for many years now, will allow us, at a time when average tourist numbers are tending to decline, to create a good flow of visitors for both hoteliers and restaurateurs. We have believed and continue to believe that sport is an important resource for tourism, and thanks to our many well-equipped sports facilities, we have been able to apply to host important events again this year.
To turn the spotlight on the “September Sports at Loano” will be the Over 40 Basketball Tournament, scheduled from September 9 to 11 on the playing fields of the E. Garassini Sports Hall and the Falcone Institute. The event, organized by the’A.S.D. Finale Basketball Club and arrived at the twelfth edition, will involve eight teams: Bergamo, Turin, Bra, Milan 3, Padua, Rapallo, Tortona and Loano.
For three days, the court will be the stage for a showdown between evergreen basketball players who have made Italian basketball great, united by their undying passion for this beautiful sport. The participating teams, divided into two groups, will compete on Friday evening and Saturday for a place in Sunday morning's finals.
The September 17 and 18 the appointment with the youth volleyball. L’A.S.D. St. Pius X Volleyball will present the 9° Riviera delle Palme National Tournament.
Three trophies in all will be contested over the weekend: the 123rd Liliana Tassara Trophy reserved for the category Under 18 Female, the 14th Giuseppe Guzzetti Trophy for Under 16 Women's and the 10th Domenico Dama Memorial for Under 14 Women's.
The tournament will take place in five sports facilities: in Loano (E. Garassini Sports Hall, G. Guzzetti Sports Hall, Giovanni Falcone Institute), in Borghetto S.S. (Sports Hall), and in Finale Ligure (A. Berruti Sports Hall). The final for first place will be played at the Loano Sports Hall.
Sunday, September 18, The historic center of Loano will host the Tour of the Walls – Paolo Romanisio Memorial, a competitive 10-kilometer running race now in its tenth edition. The event, organized by the Runners Sports Society Loano, will see the participation of athletes from all over northern Italy and numerous top runners. Runners will compete on a completely flat course that runs along the seafront and winds around the perimeter of the ancient city walls, with picturesque passages through Piazza Italia and the historic center. The competitive running race will be accompanied by a non-competitive 5-kilometer walk.
From Sept. 23 to 25 the companies Basketball Loano “E. Garassini” e Ceriale Basketball will be involved in organizing the Rino Rigardo Memorial, an interregional youth basketball tournament, now in its seventh year and reserved for the Under 16 category (born in 2001/2002).
The following will participate in the event: 8 teams among the most popular in Liguria, Lombardy, and Piedmont, and the matches, 16 games to be played over 3 days, will take place in the two main sports facilities of Loano, the Palazzetto dello Sport Garassini and the Palasport Guzzetti.
New this year is the participation of the under-16 team from Basketball Loano “E. Garassini”, composed of athletes from the two organizing clubs, which will test its strength against fierce opponents for the first time.
The September 28 and 29 the Boissano Comprehensive Athletic Field will host the 28th International Rainbow Athletics Meeting Europe, organized by the’ASD Athletics Center Celle Ligure in collaboration with the’ASD Athletics Rainbow Savona.
Part of the Europe Athletisme Promotion circuit, the event will dedicate the first day to long throw competitions (hammer/disk/javelin) open to all categories, including Paralympic athletes (FISPES). Top events are scheduled on the second day with running and jumping competitions for the absolute and youth categories. The event will include the 17th Together in Sport Trophy, organized in collaboration with FISPES and Special Olympics, which will involve athletes with disabilities.
The series of sporting events will continue throughout the month of October still providing great entertainment and excitement.
Sunday 2 The seventh edition of the Gran Fondo Loabikers Open to amateur cyclists and cycle tourists of both sexes, Italian and foreign, aged between 16 and 75. After starting in Via degli Alpini, the race route will continue towards Pietra Ligure, then climb from Tovo San Giacomo (Melogno) to the junction (Din) towards Lake Osiglia. The cyclists will then pass through Caragna, Calizzano, Bardineto, Carpe, Toirano, and Boissano before crossing the finish line at Loano.
Always Sunday, October 2 the E. Garassini Sports Hall will host the first Round B concentration of the A2 Women's Table Tennis Series. The event organized by the’ASD Toirano, newly promoted to the national women's second category of team championships, will feature some of the best players in Italy.
Six teams will compete in nine matches. The event will start at 10:00 a.m. The hosts from Toirano will face Athletic Club from Genoa; Savona will take on Tennis Tavolo Torino; and Cortemaggiore from Emilia will play against Regaldi Novara.
The second round will take place at 12:30 p.m. Toirano's opponent will be Regaldi Novara; Tennis Tavolo Torino will play against Athletic Club; Savona will challenge Cortemaggiore.
The day will end with the matches scheduled for 2:30 p.m.: Athletic Club vs. Savona, Toirano vs. Cortemaggiore, Tennis Tavolo Torino vs. Regaldi Novara.
The October 23 will return Run Riviera Run – International Half Marathon departing from Finale Ligure (Varigotti – Loc. Malpasso) and arriving at Loano.
The half marathon (21.097 kilometers), organized by ASD RunRivieraRun with the sponsorship and collaboration of the Province of Savona and the Municipalities of Finale Ligure, Borgio Verezzi, Pietra Ligure, and of course Loano, will arrive in the splendid setting of the tourist port, Marina di Loano.
Finally, two sports events are scheduled on the October 30.
In E. Garassini Sports Hall will take place on Women's Basketball Tournament “Festa della Pigotta” organized by the’A.S.D. Basketball Loano in collaboration with the’UNITRE of Loano.
Players from all the Minibasket Centers in the region have been invited to the event. The participants will be mixed to form new teams, which will take part in competitions and games on the three courts set up inside the sports hall.
Four years ago, UNICEF accepted the request from A.S.D. Pallacanestro Loano to bring an extra player to the bench during training sessions and matches: a Pigotta doll (larger than standard, created by the skilled hands of the ladies of the University of the Third Age, Unitre, of Loano) dressed in the club's pink and black colors. Since then, the mascot's birthday has been celebrated every year with a charity initiative in favor of UNICEF.
Always the 30, will once again take center stage. table tennis with the Golden Tournament, third round of the 2016/2017 Liguria Cup. The individual competitions will be held in the gym of the “Falcone” Technical Commercial Institute. Starting at 9:30 a.m. and continuing throughout the day, around a hundred table tennis players registered with 17 Ligurian clubs will compete for four titles: men's singles and doubles Over 2000; women's singles and doubles Over 400. Ten tables will be set up in the Loano facility to allow for a large number of matches to be played.
The event, organized by ASD Toirano and eagerly awaited throughout the region, will see players ranked 2001 and below in the national rankings and female players ranked 401 and below take to the starting line.
The Golden Loano will see the participation of athletes of all ages, from the most experienced with a high-level background to the most promising young talents.
