PRESS RELEASE (August 17, 2016)

Thursday, August 18, a Loano, the initiative “Leguided tours of Loano”, promoted by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano and curated by the CTG Loano.

The walk to discover the architectural heritage “outside the walls”will begin with a visit to the first religious complex built in Loano by the Doria family. Founded in 1582 at the behest of Zenobia Del Carretto and officiated by the Augustinian fathers, it was rebuilt between 1588 and 1598 on a larger scale with an adjoining cloister. The itinerary will then touch on Borgo Castello, located in the northern part of the city. The medieval village preserves its characteristic central square, overlooked by arcades and terraces, from which cobbled lanes and a long staircase lead up to the foot of the castle. The tour will conclude with a visit to the Convent of Mount Carmel, which is one of the most interesting works of late Ligurian Mannerism. The imposing complex required extensive preparatory work, including the construction of a viaduct, similar to a monumental bridge that rises from the village to the square, and a cobbled ramp that climbs up from the opposite side.

The meeting is at 4:30 pm, in front of the Church of St. Augustine. The walk will be free of charge. Reservations can be made by calling 338-8155536 or 349-8159699.
