The book of Andrea Vitali It starts in Bellano, the village on Lake Como where the writer was born and lives.

Set in the late 1950s, “Kafka's Apples” It is inspired by an anecdote linked to a stay in Lucerne by the great Prague writer and is packed with many characters, all of them likeable, who are the driving force behind Vitali's novel.

Synopsis. Abramo Ferrascini, owner of the hardware store in Bellano, is a bocce player. He's not very good on his own, but he plays bocce like a pro and, paired with a good partner, he's unbeatable. He was trained to perfection by the manager of the Workers' Club, Mario Stimolo, a coach by passion and because three years ago, in 1955, he lost his right arm in a press and therefore could no longer play. Now Ferrascini has everything it takes to win the semifinals of the provincial championship scheduled for next Sunday in Cermenate. But there is a snag. His brother-in-law, Eraldo, who lives in Lucerne, is ill. The Swiss doctors there have given him forty-eight hours to live. And now Abramo's wife, Rosalba, wants to reach her sister at all costs, but above all to say a final goodbye to Eraldo, perhaps give him a last kiss. But will they manage to get there and back in time for the semifinals? It depends. If Eraldo dies by Tuesday, Wednesday at the latest, it can be done. Right, let's go then. A quick check of the 1100, brake fluid, tires; ID card renewed at the last minute; first stop, the San Bernardino Pass, then straight down to Lucerne: just follow the signs, even if they're in German, because you can still understand the name of that city.

The meeting will conclude with the’aperitif.

Andrea Vitali, Born in 1956, he has always had a passion for writing: as a boy he wanted to be a journalist, but on his father's urgent advice he chose a more secure profession, becoming a doctor in Bellano, his native village on Lake Como. Many more would follow, until the first great successes: A window view lake (2003), The mayor's daughter (2005) e Olives included (2006). Since then, Vitali has published two or more books every year. The latest to appear is Kafka's apples.
