The meeting will be led by the music journalist. John Vignola.
“A Mandolin Journey” is a journey of discovery and “rediscovery” of the mandolin, the undisputed star of this 15-track adventure.
“Following the instrument and the call of its eight Neapolitan strings, my fellow adventurers Lorenzo Piccone and Luciano Puppo and I let ourselves be led around the world," he explains. Charles Aonzo – We started with the intrinsic Italian character of the mandolin, which, with its strong connotations, represents us universally. We embraced its extensive repertoire, combining culture and tradition, values that are extremely important for the art and music of our country, in a rich mix of new atmospheres and sounds.
Following in his footsteps in search of fortune in the Americas, we studied the different scores and ways of playing the instrument, creating a fascinating journey that ranges from classical music to folk, from choro to jazz and much more...
The mandolin has often traveled in third class, across seas and continents, inside cardboard suitcases; it has seen unknown lands and wherever it has landed, it has taken root and intelligently integrated itself into the local culture. This is confirmed by the fact that the instrument has different appearances and tunings depending on the various musical genres in which it is played.
With this project, we have therefore chosen to showcase the journey of the Italian mandolin in its various aspects—traditional, renewed, and reinvented—in a modern melting pot of music and culture. A musical “map” that has its roots in our tradition and then heads toward other interesting and unexpected musical paths.”
