A Loano the season of major sports events, promoted by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano, you will open the February 21 with the sixth edition of Granfondo City of Loano, the first round of the national calendar of the industry.
“Sport is good for tourism," says Councillor Remo Zaccaria - For several years now, the Pignocca Administration has been focusing on organizing sporting events to increase tourist attendance in the city at times of the year when it is not possible to focus solely on the sun and the sea. The Granfondo organized by GS Loabikers is the first of many events of national and international character that we will host in Loano in 2016. Athletes, coaches, chaperones, but also fans will increase arrivals, bringing benefits to the economic categories of Loano. In addition, each sporting event will represent a great opportunity for territorial marketing.”
Loano is ready to welcome the many cyclists who will reach the Ligurian coast this weekend to try their hand at the Granfondo.
The event will take place on the route from 106 kilometers and will largely develop inland with a total elevation gain of 1,700 meters.
The start will take place at 10 a.m. in Pendola Street. The granfondisti will ride along the Aurelia to Albenga, then turn towards Villanova d'Albenga to reach Ranzo, where the first serious climb of the day will begin. After the top of the hill, the athletes will face a long valley section, surrounded by olive trees and typical Ligurian vegetation, which will lead to Cenesi. This will be followed by the descent to Cisano sul Neva, which will take the cyclists on the road to Zuccarello and then to the long climb to Bardineto. Reaching the Giogo di Toirano, a long descent will bring them back near the coast. Finally, just a few kilometers from the finish there will be the last difficulty to face: the Boissano tear.
The secretariat of the Granfondo City of Loano will be set up on Toti Street and will be operational on Saturday, Feb. 20 and Sunday, Feb. 21, during the hours of 3-7 p.m. and 7-9:30 a.m., respectively. Only back numbers will be distributed on Sunday morning, while race packs will be handed out from 12:30 to 4 p.m.
Final registrations for the City of Loano Granfondo will be possible until February 19.
The event's awards ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. and will close the day. The Granfondo City of Loano will also be valid as a fifth Laura Pesce Memorial, with a special award to be presented to the first woman in the W2 band.
The calendar of winter sporting events will continue with the Northwest Macro Area Tennis Tournament men's and women's under 12-14 (Feb. 26/March 6) organized by the A.S.D. Tennis Club Loano, the Italian Karate Championships Final absolutes and juniors (March 5 and 6) organized by the’Musurakai Karate Association, the first race of the Italian Series A Twirling Championship (March 19 and 20), the eighth edition of the Easter Tournament of youth volleyball (March 24) organized by the’A.S.D. St. Pius X Volleyball Loano, the Vibram Maremontana trail 2016 (April 2 and 3) with the Trail 60 km, Trail 45 km, Trail 20 km, Fit + Nordic Walking 17 km races, organized by the’ASD Maremontana, the 44° Ttrophy of cycling juniors City of Loano (April 3) organized by the Velo Club Loano and the National Windsurfing Regatta (April 9 and 10) organized by the’ASD Nautical Circle Loano.
