PRESS RELEASE (7/12/2015)
The Municipality of Loano has joined the awareness campaign “Color the World Orange.”, promoted internationally by the United Nations and supported locally by the Zonta Club Alsassio-Albenga and from the Counter Artemisia Gentileschi.
The initiative was created with the intention of stimulating everyone's commitment and action to end violence against women and girls, which, according to the United Nations Agency for Gender Equality (UN Women) affects one in three women worldwide.
“As of this morning," says Mayor Luigi Pignocca - the presence of an orange banner on the municipal building announces the City of Loano's adherence to the mobilization campaign, which is taking place worldwide against gender-based violence. The color orange represents a willingness to be active in the cause against violence against women and girls. The City Council has long been committed to supporting the project of the Artemisia Gentileschi Desk, opened in 2010 and is run by volunteers who provide telephone listening and individual interview management for women victims of violence.
Just these days, the offices are working to redevelop a room In the Kursaal Palace, which since January will be made available of the counter for the team of volunteers, psychologists and lawyers, who offer specialized counseling.”
“I think it is important the activity that is being carried out in our area by the Artemisia Gentileschi Desk. - says Councillor Luca Lettieri - The path proposed by the association guarantees a welcoming space capable of making victims of violence, who turn to it, feel at ease. In fact, the desk was created to offer initial help and counseling and to network with all the services in the area that deal with violence.”
