PRESS RELEASE (6/11/2015)
Sunday, November 8, a Loano, will take place the Women's Minibasket event, “Afternoon in Pink: 3rd birthday of the Unicef Piglet”, organized by the’A.D. Basketball Loano, under the auspices of the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano.
Players from all Minibasket Centers in the region have been invited to the event, scheduled from 3 p.m. in the E. Garassini Sports Hall. Participants will be mixed to make up unseen teams, which will participate in competitions and games on the 3 courts set up inside the Palazzetto.
Three years ago, Unicef granted A.D. Basketball Loano's request to be able to bring an extra player, a Pigotta (larger than standard size, created by the precious hands of the ladies of the University of the Third Age, Unitre, of Loano) dressed in the colors, pink and black, of the club, to the bench during practice and games.
“To emphasize the charitable purpose towards UNICEF,” the organizers explain, "each little girl, who will take the field, will donate a symbolic participation fee consisting of a one-euro coin that she will pour inside a piggy bank placed in the center of the parquet. Each Pigotta opens a circle of solidarity that unites those who made the doll, those who adopted it and the child who, thanks to UNICEF, will be included in a program to fight child mortality.".
The mascot's third birthday will be celebrated on Sunday with the hope of replicating the success of the past editions, which saw the participation of about 100 mini-team players, including from the province of La Spezia.
