Sunday, September 6 behind Loano, Mt. Carmo will celebrate the 50° ANNIVERSARY OF THE LAYING OF THE CROSS ON THE CARM with the CAI intersectional meeting of the province of Savona, organized by the Loano section of the CAI in collaboration with the’“Friends of Carmo” Association” and the local ANA group (National Alpine Association).
Volunteers from the Savona sections of the CAI will meet on the highest peak (1389 m a.s.l.) overlooking Loano, the Finalese and the Bormida Valley, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the placement of the cross on the summit. The current stainless steel cross was placed on the summit in 1965 to replace the previous metal lattice one, which was destroyed by a storm. For the occasion it will be possible to climb to the summit following different routes, also accompanied by CAI volunteers.
Below are the schedules and starting points for routes that involve escorting:
– 7:30/8:30 a.m. Meet at the Chestnut parking lot, at the end of the Loano-Castagnabanca road.
– 8,30/9,30 meeting at the yoke of Toirano
It will also be possible to reach the destination, unaccompanied, from the Giustenice yoke, from Pietra Ligure by the dirt road that starts after Giustenice, alternatively from Loc. Principi in Bardineto.
At 11:30 a.m. a short memorial ceremony is planned with greetings from the authorities and the celebration of Holy Mass.
The morning will conclude with a picnic lunch and convivial moments.
Monday, September 14, the Exaltation of the Cross will recur. At 11 a.m. Holy Mass will be celebrated by the Bishop Msgr. Antonio Suetta.
