PRESS RELEASE (4/08/2015)
Wednesday, August 5, a Loano, the season of summer children's theater, returns to animate the’Prince's Garden Summer Arena. At 9:30 pm, Daniele Debernardi will present his latest show “The Wizard of OZ”.
The evening included in the project “Loano for the Family”, promoted by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano, is organized by the I.So THeatre with the artistic direction of Luca Malvicini.
Inspired by Frank Baum's short story, the show is characterized by the presence on stage of thirty colored cubes from which parts of the story emerge. The starting point is the colors that are a key element in the story: the Kansas gray, the yellow road, the emerald green city and so on.
“We started from this idea," explains Daniele Debernardi - to bring the figure theater performance to life. Each passage is accompanied by piano phrasing in such a way as to make the storytelling and viewing of the scenes increasingly magical.
For this staging we used various construction techniques and various materials, there are foam and latex puppets, all the scenes are made of wood, sometimes covered with cloth, the city of Oz is represented with shadow theater with silhouettes and acetates making the setting magical and fantastic. To get out of Oz is not that difficult just then click your heels three times but to do this you have to have had many experiences first.”
The story retains all the original elements. The main characters are all in search of something they need, and only Oz can satisfy them: Dorothy wants to go home, the little straw man needs a brain, the tin man longs for a heart because he thinks he is devoid of feelings, and still a lion king of the forest is in search of courage. But alas, it turns out that Oz does not exist, it is a scam, and as a result no one will be able to get that quest.
But here is the twist. The puppet animator enters the role of the magician, and as in the story a fistful of sawdust, a paper heart, and a bottle with a green liquid will suffice to reassure the protagonists, causing them to finally get what they were looking for. In the continuous perpetration of deception, however, a very important fact occurs having the certainty and having the confidence that one can do it alone.
