PRESS RELEASE (16/07/2015)
Friday, July 17, a Loano, in the’Prince's Garden Summer Arena will kick off the dance festival, sponsored by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano and organized by the I.So THeatre with the artistic direction of Luca Malvicini.
At 9:30 pm, the curtain will rise on the Ballet of Liguria Company, who will present the new show signed by Giorgio Azzone and Erika Guglieri, “Middle Sea”, a danced journey through the musical traditions of lands bordering the Mediterranean.
“Middle Sea.” is inspired by the great heritage of traditional, or rather “character” dances of the Mediterranean area, a fabric of folk history of great richness and multiplicity of influences.
The proposed voyage presents the sea as a common thread, seen as a pivotal and connecting element in the lives of the people who border it.
It starts in Naples, one of the great political and cultural capitals of the Mediterranean, with an explosion of energy and fun that stages, through a reinterpretation of the tammuriata and tarantella, choreography that emphasizes the atmosphere of the city markets. The Italian journey continues to Sicily, where first Greek and then Spanish influences are more markedly present and the tarantella takes on extremely distinctive tints both choreographically and musically. Salento is the last Italian stop that emphasizes the colors of the Grecanica tradition of the Salento pizzica.
The show then “emigrates” to the Middle East, which encompasses a variety of influences, from Byzantine culture to Arab influence reaching as far as the Turkish atmospheres encapsulated in the dance of the veils. The journey concludes with a taste of the Balkan peninsula (where Byzantine heritage often gives way to Hebrew and Gypsy heritage) through a reinterpretation of the ciarda, in a mixture of feminine grace and masculine strength and energy.
The result is an engaging and stimulating performance, where the technique, taste and harmony of academic dance are mixed with the colors of the folk traditions of the different areas touched.
The evening is at FREE ADMISSION.
