PRESS RELEASE (06/23/2015)

Safer summer at Loano. The municipal administration, led by Luigi Pignocca approved the increased staffing and functions of the Loano Municipal Police for the summer season.

“We have arranged," says Mayor Luigi Pignocca - a public safety action plan, which includes initiatives to improve territorial control during the peak tourist season. Throughout the summer, the presence of the Municipal Police will also be guaranteed at night, and fixed posts of territorial control and patrolling throughout the day will be increased. All this is thanks to the hiring of temporary staff that will allow the Municipal Police Command to reorganize its surveillance activities. The planned investment in increased staffing will be about 140,000 euros.”

“From June 20 to September 20," says Councillor for Municipal Police. Luca Lettieri -  the activities of the Local Police will be enhanced with the expansion of personnel. In fact, 8 temporary officers will be hired to join the 16 already on permanent duty. The goal is to strengthen the ability to listen to citizens, so as to ensure greater patrol interventions in relation to reports. In addition, we will also increase the presence of officers in the territory by exploiting synergies with municipal offices and the Commands in Convention, and we will strengthen the fight against illegal street vending, through dedicated services on the coastline in conjunction with other police forces.”

“A safer summer will also be ensured this year by the collaboration between the Municipal Police, ASCOM, the SIB (Italian Beach Union of Loano) and the ALA (Loanesi Hoteliers Association),’ adds the’Councillor for State Property Ino Tassara - that together they will activate a dedicated beach service with daily presence of policemen and on weekends with the help of security guards to combat illegal street trading.”.

“Loano's economic categories are united in the interest of the local economy," says the SIB president of Loano Marco Zappa - and together for the summer of 2015 we have planned a massive information campaign aimed at combating illegal street trading. In addition, we will give support to the Municipal Police Command by providing stewards, i.e., security guards, on weekends, who will be in charge of advising tourists to desist from buying goods from squatters and to invite vendors to move away from the beaches.”

“We will make our contribution to the Safe Summer plan.“ - Says the ALA president of Loano Graziella Delbalzo - It is important to monitor the entire Loano area from the center to the suburbs, to the seashore, so as to ensure greater safety for our guests. We must work together to offer tourists a vacation of relaxation, fun and empathy with the area.”.

“We are very pleased with this union in addressing important issues for the city such as security and combating commercial abuse. Says ASCOM President Daniela Leali - Today more than in the past, we need to support our economy by limiting unfair competition from those who sell counterfeit goods and operate illegally. It is right to protect those who operate within the law and who, in addition to turning the economy around, support services by paying taxes and fees.”

The plan Safer summer of the Municipal Police Department provides for the establishment of services for the prevention and suppression of particularly dangerous traffic-related behaviors (e.g., driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs), increased control of compliance with municipal regulations and ordinances, and increased supervision of urban disorderly situations.
