PRESS RELEASE (23/05/2015)

Monday, May 25, at Loano, the Feast of St. Isidore, patron saint of farmers. The celebrations will begin in the Parish of St. John the Baptist with Holy Mass at 8:30 pm. During the religious ceremony, the parish priest, Don Edmondo, will bless the “bundles” that is, the first fruits of the fields offered by the Loanesi Farmers

It will be followed by the procession that has been held for more than 100 years on the Monday following the feast of Pentecost and is organized by the Farmers' Committee in collaboration with the parish of St. John the Baptist where the 19th-century wooden group depicting the image of the peasant saint, the master in adoration and the pair of oxen intent on plowing the fields led by an Angel is kept.

Following the centuries-old tradition, the statue will parade through the city streets, carried on the shoulders of farmers, decorated not with flowers but with all the first fruits of the fields. The impressiveness of the statue group and the heaviness of the “bundles” made of fresh fruits and vegetables makes the task of the many volunteer bearers who take turns in the long route of the Procession particularly challenging.

Taking part in the procession will be the city's civil and religious authorities, the city brotherhoods of the “Whites” and the “Turks” and the “St. Mary Immaculate” Musical Band.

On the occasion of the feast of St. Isidore, for the third year the  “Campagna Amica” market”, organized by the Coldiretti Savona under the auspices of the Municipality of Loano.

From 10 a.m., Loano waterfront, Maccagli Garden area, will host a colorful and fragrant exhibition market dedicated to local, 0-kilometer agri-food products. It is a market that is characterized by sustainability and responsibility, where people will be able to buy seasonal agricultural products, always fresh and of Italian origin controlled and guaranteed by Campagna Amica producers. The market exhibition will host a space dedicated to children, where they can admire farm animals.
