PRESS RELEASE (13/05/2015)

Loano celebrates the Blue Flag. For the sixth year consecutive returns to wave over the Loano seashore the Blue Flag. Councillor for the Environment and State Property Ino Tassara, participated yesterday, in Rome, in the presentation of the award given to European coastal resorts that meet quality criteria related to bathing water parameters and environmental services offered.

“We are very pleased with the confirmation of the Blue Flag to the beaches of Loano and the Marina Marina Marina of Loano, - states Councillor Tassara - and we are happy about the new assignment to the municipality of Borghetto S. Spirito. This is an important news, which strengthens the tourist image in Italy and abroad of the entire district. It also confirms the quality and effectiveness of our wastewater treatment system.”

The parameters that define the Blue Flag award are bathing water quality, wastewater purification, environmental certification, waste management, accessibility at beaches, environmental education and communication, and sustainability initiatives. An important element is the city's welcoming capacity through structured services that take into account environmental sustainability.”

La Blue Flag was established in 1987, the European Year for the Environment. The Campaign is overseen in the various countries by FEE, Foundation for Environmental Education.

The Blue Flag is awarded for two merits: the Blue Flag of beaches certifies the quality of bathing waters and lidos, while the Blue Flag of marinas ensures the cleanliness of waters adjacent to ports and the absence of sewage discharges.
