In the bridge of the May Day, a Loano, the calendar of events, promoted by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano proposes a gluttonous tasting on the waterfront, a excursion in the nearby hinterland and two markets.
Friday, May 1, Those who enjoy walking in the green will be able to participate in the free guided hike of Loano not only sea. The destination of the walk will be the‘Abbey of San Pietro in Varatella.
The structure,set in a panoramic position, overlooks and dominates, from the height of its 891 meters, the town of Toirano and the spectacular Loano coastline.
The abbey was built, on ancient ruins from the 7th century, at the behest of Charlemagne and donated to the Benedictine monks. The monks radically transformed these places through major forest reclamation works that allowed the introduction of vine and olive cultivation and the construction of mills and olive presses. The Benedictines left the abbey in 1315 to the Carthusians, who in turn left, in 1495 , to move to the Charterhouse of Toirano.
Today the remaining buildings have been renovated by volunteers, who have also created rooms to accommodate those who want to spend the night here.
Departure is at 8:30 a.m.. The meeting place is in Valerga Square.

Without Insurance you will not be able to participate in the hike. Participants must have appropriate footwear and clothing suitable for the ’mountain environment. The trip leaders will not admit those who do not have the proper requirements.
Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2, on the waterfront, near the Sea Workers' Cottage, from the 2 p.m. at 18,30, you will be able to taste the delicious fried and cream-filled doughnuts. The initiative will be organized by the Pro Loco of Loano.
Saturday, May 2, at Garassino Garbarino waterfront, the special edition of the market of the’Antiquities and Collectibles. From 9 at 20.00, exhibitors will present antiques, curiosities and grandma's things. On the market stalls you will be able to find not only many curiosities of yesteryear but also collectibles and modern items with vintage characteristic of the 1960s and 1970s. There will be furniture, paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, objets d'art, carpets, textiles, lace, ceramics and art artifacts.
From 10.00 at 19.30, Massena Square will host Crafts in the square, the craft and artists' market. The small square in the heart of the historic center will come alive with the presence of artists working directly in front of the public. Artisans will be present with painted ceramics, wood-carved objects, painted glass, bags and belts made from leather, decupage and art jewelry.
