PRESS RELEASE (10/3/2015)

Thursday, March 12 the excursion program Loano not only sea, curated by the Loano section of the C.A.I.. under the auspices of the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano, proposes the guided excursion to the Mount Alzabecchi (mt. 750). The route largely retraces the ancient road of medieval origin that until the early 1900s was one of the most important links between western Liguria and Piedmont.

“The trip," explains Beppe Peretti, CAI hiking guide of Loano - will start from the road that connects Toirano with Bardineto, at the height of the Salto del Lupo bridge. From the small road that climbs on the right side of the brook, the Via della Valle begins, which after a short while becomes a well-preserved mule track, in which the guardrails that bordered it are still present.

We will continue on the Via della Valle, skirting and crossing several times the Rio Curnà, which flows down shady and full of clear pools of water, until we reach some plateaus that were once the site of fertile pastures, under the imposing structure of the Rocca Berloira fortress. Here we will meet a small dirt road that goes up the western side of the valley and reaches the provincial road at the Alzabecchi saddle, from where, with a short and easy climb, we will gain the small and rocky Punta degli Alzabecchi, overhanging on the sea side, and enjoy a splendid view of the Varatella Valley and the coast of Borghetto S. Spirito. The return will be on the same ascent route.”

Departure is at 8:30 a.m.. The meeting place is in Valerga Square.
