Saturday, Jan. 31, a Loano, at 4 p.m, at Council Chamber in Doria Palace a slide show will be held entitled. “The Loire by bike: mountains and plains, rivers and canals, castles, abbeys and ancient cities” with images and commentary by Beppe Peretti.
The initiative, organized by the’UNITRE of Loano under the auspices of the Municipality of Loano, offers a journey of discovery of the valley where the Loire River winds.
The story will retrace the route followed by Beppe Peretti in 2011, in 16 days of hiking alone by bicycle. The departure from the spring at Mt. Jerbier de Jonc (mt 1500) and subsequent stops: the Ardèche, Le Puy en Velay, Nevers and the Briare Bridge, Sully Castle and Saint Bénoit Abbey, Orleans. And then the castles, from the sumptuous Chambord castle in Blois to the mighty castles of Chaumont and Amboise to the spectacular Chenonceau. The city of Tours and more castles: Villandry, surrounded by its gardens, the majestic mole of Langeais, the fairy-tale structures of Ussè, the great abbey of Fontevraud, an imposing religious structure among the oldest and most important in all of France. Before the mouth, one more large and historic city: Nantes. And then after about 1300 km, Saint Nazaire, a modern town located at the confluence of the Loire and the Atlantic, largely rebuilt after the bombing suffered in World War II.
Beppe Peretti, born in Savigliano (CN) is currently vice-president of the CAI Section of Loano, passionate about mountains and trekking, has obtained, the qualification of AE (hiking guide). In more than two decades of activity, he has achieved an in-depth cultural and hiking knowledge of western Liguria and its hinterland, the Ligurian Alps and the Cuneo area. He is currently engaged as a companion for CAI groups, schools and various organizations. He also curates the initiative called ’Non Solo Mare“ (Not Only Sea), which promotes weekly hikes in the hinterland of Western Liguria with a high number of participants.
