The year 2015 opens with the new excursion program of “Loano not only sea”, curated by the Loano section of the C.A.I.. under the auspices of the Municipality of Loano.

The calendar, which will kick offThursday, January 8 proposes throughout 46 rides distributed throughout the year on Thursdays, with the only break in August.

“Loano not only sea, now in its 21st year, says the Mayor of Loano, Luigi Pignocca - is appreciated by residents and tourists alike. Indeed, the outdoor hiking program provides an opportunity to discover and appreciate the natural and architectural heritage of our area. I would like to thank the members of the Loanese Section of the C.A.I. for the passion with which they renew their commitment to this initiative every year, and I invite those who love to walk not to miss the opportunity to take pleasant hikes in the company of expert guides.”

“After the full success of previous years' outings, with the extraordinary participation of about 40 hikers per outing (for a total of about 1400 people), - explains Beppe Peretti, CAI hiking companion of Loano - again this year, CAI Loano aims to encourage hiking, knowledge and appreciation of the area along with the promotion of solidarity and socialization.”

“The itineraries proposed by Loano not only Mare," explains Councillor Remo Zaccaria - will alternate routes among olive trees, forests and Mediterranean scrub, with walks through ancient villages, churches, fortresses and archaeological sites. And that's not all. Visits to ethnographic museums, urban trekking and trail cleaning are planned. The guided walks are totally free of charge and can be taken by everyone, at any age.”

The excursion review will open with a soft itinerary that, together with a leisurely walk, will allow for a visit and knowledge of a village in western Liguria.

Thursday, January 8 it will be the turn of Borghetto Santo Spirito, an ancient settlement built around 1300. After a visit to the historic center with a guide offered by the Borghetto Municipality's Tourism Department, the inevitable walk will follow, albeit a simple and quiet one, which from the Historic Center will lead to the summit of Mount Picaro (300 m elevation gain). After the usual picnic lunch, the return will be by a scenic descent back to Borghetto.

Departure is at 8:30 a.m.. The meeting place is in Valerga Square  (market square).

For non-members CAI accident insurance is compulsory, to be taken out by calling Laura Panicucci tel. 019 672366, cell. 349 7854220, if absent Elena Ghiglione cell 333 9384941, by 12 noon the day before the excursion. Without Insurance you will not be able to participate in the excursion.

Participants should have appropriate footwear and clothing suitable for the ’mountain environment. Trip leaders will not admit those who do not have the proper requirements.
