In the Civic Library, to the 21.15, will take placethe presentation-concert of the album “Crescendo” by the Duo Bottasso.

Fruit of a year of research and reflection on one's musical journey, “Growing up” is the first album by Duo Bottasso, made with the collaboration of numerous guests.

Retracing their steps and fearlessly exploring new directions, the album encapsulates the story of two brothers who grew up together in music: origins, linked to Occitan dance music, gradually flow into new composition and improvisation.

Dance music is repositioned in the present, confronting and being inspired by electronics, suggestions from contemporary music, and with world influences related to the Mediterranean, Brazilian and Scandinavian music.

Starting from the notion that the power of traditional music (and more) is to make the mind travel and tell stories, real or imaginary, the Duo uses the splendid voice of Elena Ledda and the cantabile lute of Mauro Palmas to bring Valle Varaita wedding songs closer to Sardinian music. Together with Luca Curcio and Gilson Silveira, we travel on the imaginary caravel that left for Brazil in 1209 to escape the Crusades against the Cathars; in yet another story, an ocean liner that arrived at the port of Genoa with a “jazz-band” inspires the musicians of the 4 Provinces in composing new music.

In just a few years, the young Bottasso brothers have become a household name in the world of traditional music. Originally from Boves, a town in the province of Cuneo in southern Piedmont, organist Simone and violinist Nicolò are young talents. They began playing at the age of seven with historic Piedmontese folk revival musicians, organist Silvio Peron and violinist Gabriele Ferrero. Very early on, Simone entered the Conservatory where he graduated in transverse flute in 2010. In 2012 he will finish his Jazz studies at the three-year Conservatory of Turin. Nicolò studies violin at the Cuneo Conservatory with Piergiorgio Rosso and trumpet with Fabiano Cudiz.

Listening to them, one is always surprised by their open-mindedness and knowledge of world musics, the latter acquired thanks to a family that has always encouraged them and made them travel in search of new musical experiences. They have learned a great deal from the musics of France and the Basque Country, comparing their style with many established musicians such as Riccardo Tesi, Marc Perrone and Norbert Pignol (for Simone) and Dave Sheperd, Lars Frederiksson, Tony Canton (for Nicolò).
