Saturday, November 29, a Loano, at 4 p.m, at Civic Library conference will be held “The whys of melodrama”, organized by the’UNITRE by Loano under the auspices of the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano.

Delving into the topic will be the Alexander Scotto. The lecture will shed light on the origins and development of opera, first in Italy and then abroad. After a historical overview, the lecturer will explain the structure of opera (what parts make it up), list the many professional figures who make it possible to stage an opera production, and the different artists who play the characters. The lecture will answer the questions: how does the Composer assign parts to singers? How is it that in Melodramas people sing rather than act?

Alexander Scotto, began his studies under the guidance of M° Luigi Barisone, taking his first exams at the Conservatory of Alexandria.

At the same time, under the guidance of soprano Gina Cigna, he approached the world of singing, and in particular Opera. Having passed his exams in the Conservatory of Lucca, he was directed by the contralto Elisa Brezzi Casalone to specialize in the field of Lieder. He worked in the Nordic countries, particularly in Flanders, where this genre is very popular. His knowledge of five languages allowed him to range in the most varied literatures, focusing especially on the German masters Schubert and Schumann. After a few years, having returned to Italy, he formed a stable duo with Maestro Barisone with whom he performed in France, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Holland, Belgium and Germany. Following the latter's passing, he devoted himself to teaching, with the intention of introducing music to new generations.
