Thursday, August 21, in the’Prince's Garden Summer Arena, will close the review dedicated to the opera, promoted by the by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano and organized by the I.So THeatre.
At 9:30 p.m., the’Return to the Opera Association will present “Selected Pages from The Barber of Seville.” by Gioachino Rossini to a libretto by Cesare Sterbini, with musical direction and piano accompaniment by Maestro Bill Doherty.
Artistic director of the Central Florida Lyric Opera in Orlando, Doherty founded the’International Opera Center of America under the patronage of former U.S. President George Bush. He has collaborated with numerous artists including the greatest singers of the New York Metropolitan Opera.
Based on the play by Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais, “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” was first performed in Rome in 1816, registering a resounding failure on its debut. But within a few months it became the very symbol of opera buffa, so much so that it established itself first in major Italian theaters, and then in European capitals where it won the appreciation of Stendhal, Hegel and Beethoven. Even today, the melodrama composed by Rossini is one of the most beloved 19th-century operas.
The staging, curated by the’Return to the Work Association, includes a narrated presentation of the most significant moments of the story and interpretation of the most famous songs.
In the role of Rosina the Loanese Soprano Melissa Briozzo. The occasion represents a renewed collaboration between Maestro Doherty and the young Ligurian Soprano who recently debuted the opera “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” in the United States of America.
The role of Figaro will be entrusted to Baritone Maximilian Viapiano, an established performer of a variety of roles in prestigious European theaters.
Also of note is the presence of the U.S.-based Bass Sam Reynolds who will play the role of Don Basilio for the occasion. He will turn “the chosen pages” the Alassio-based Tenor. Andrea Elena.
