Tuesday, March 11, a Loano, to the 9 p.m., in the Loanese Theater, Gianfranco D'Angelo and Paola Quattrini will be the protagonists of “California Suite” by Neil Simon, a show included in the theater season sponsored by the’Department of Tourism and Culture of the City of Loano and organized by the Garage Theater, as part of the theatrical promotion circuit The Riviera of Theaters - Province of Savona.
The play, written by the biting pen of the American playwright in 1976, possesses rhythm of jokes, lively dialogue and paradoxical situations that allow Gianfranco D'Angelo and Paola Quattrini to express themselves at the highest level.
The funny comedy draws, in a clever and witty way, from real life, from characters we all know, from stories we have heard about. It amuses, but does not spare the viewer that little bitterness given by the flaws and weaknesses of the main characters.
The play is set in the suite of a large American hotel, ideal for the unfolding of couple dynamics. The comic effect that runs through and characterizes the play is provided by the contrast between the postcard atmosphere, the California dream location all sunshine, luxury and escapism, and the no-holds-barred showdown that takes place there.
For the D'Angelo-Quattrini pair, the twist in the story will turn into a kind of reversal of the initial conditions to which the characters will arrive through confrontations, clashes, surprises and disappointments; all told with lightness, irony and intelligence, showing morality without moralism, revealing to us the tragic side that lies in great humor. But most of all revealing of tragedy the hilarious side.
