PRESS RELEASE (25/02/2014)

New flagship for Loano “European Town of Sport 2010”. The tourist resort on the western Ligurian Riviera was chosen by the Italian Sailing Federation as the site of a new Federal Center for Highly Specialized Sailing.

Thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality of Loano, the Italian Sailing Federation e Marina of Loano, a company owned by Unipol Group, the space dedicated to sailing is strengthened. The signing of the agreement will make it possible to create a permanent sports area suitable for hosting collegiate gatherings and regattas at the national and international level.

A great recognition, which comes after the successful collegial gatherings of the ”...verso Rio 2016” project reserved for Under 19 sailors and after hosting in recent months the intense training of the Olympic athletes of Italian sailing, with the presence at Loano of Michele Marchesini, Technical Director of the National Teams and of Alessandra Sensini, as the Youth Technical Director of the Sailing Federation.

The new Federal Center for Highly Specialized Sailing was created as a logistical base for conducting training for upcoming major international events, first and foremost the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. This project strengthens the link between Marina di Loano and the world of sailing and is also an important driver in tourism and for the promotion of the territory. The first confirmation in this sense comes precisely from two events that will take place at Marina di Loano for 2014: the Offshore Sailing Absolute Championships (July 9-13) and the Italian Championship of the Olympic Classes (Oct. 9-12), organized by the Loano Sailing Club with the cooperation of the Loano Marina Yacht Club.

Marina of Loano and its areas dedicated to sailing are, in fact, an important resource, which allows to imagine developments in the field of hospitality related to periods of athletic preparation in both the amateur and competitive sectors, looking also at the Federations of Northern Europe.{:}
