PRESS RELEASE (11/12/2013)
Sunday December 15, at Loano, the second meeting of the review will be held. Books under the tree, promoted by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano.
At 4 p.m., in the Civic Library, in the Kursaal Palace Marco Cubeddu will present the book “C.U.B.A.M.A.S.C. with a Hand Grenade on the Heart.”, debut novel by the Genoese writer. In dialogue with the author will be the journalist Christian Bosco.
The book presentation will be accompanied by the notes of the Master Roberto Sinito.
At the center of the story is Alessandro Spera, a hypothetical Italian writer of great renown who has been missing for ten years. No one has heard from him since the day he broke into the wedding of his great love Mallory to Australian surfer Toby Paramore, brutally slaughtering the bride and groom and all the guests.
But his decades-long silence is broken by a package that arrives in the hands of the famous lawyer V.V. It contains what the whole world has been waiting for: Spera's confession.
However, the writer cautions, to understand the reasons that drove him to the insane act known to the public as “the Barcelona massacre” one must unravel the whole tangled skein of threads and stories that brought him to that Catalan church armed with a machine gun and a machete.
The reader finds himself immersed in an exaggerated and rollicking autobiography that traces the dissolute life of Spera, an unreliable and compelling narrator, from his first sexual experiences in kindergarten to his months spent in the ranks of the Foreign Legion, from his performances as a porn actor and gigolo to his years of Hollywood success. Always in the shadow of a cursed and desperate love for Mallory, his “Mel.” Soft, carefree, explosive. The love of his life. His hand grenade to the heart.
It is an irreverent debut that of Marco Cubeddu, who tells a great story of love and death, while the great events of our time are intertwined with the personal vicissitudes of the protagonist: the G8 in Genoa, September 11, the terrible accident at the Thyssenkrupp factory in Turin that Spera finds himself witnessing as a fireman.{:}
