Sunday, December 8, a Loano, at Sports hall “Guzzetti” will take place on Elio Garassini Memorial Basketball Tournament, organized by the’ASD Basketball Loano under the auspices of the’Sports Department of the City of Loano.

The tournament is dedicated to the memory of “Maestro Elio Garassini” and is reserved for the youth categories of minibasket basketball “Scoiattoli 2005-2006, Aquilotti 2003-2004, ESORDIENTI years 2002-2003. The youth categories that will play the tournament represent all age groups of young minibasketball players.

“In the late 1960′s, an elementary school teacher, Elio Garassini," explains Councillor Remo Zaccaria - brought minibasketball to Loano and dedicated much of his life to raising budding young basketball players, starting right from his elementary school students, achieving great results at the national level: Rome, Porto S. Giorgio, Naples, Pesaro, Bologna, etc. never achieved in the years to follow by any Ligurian team. Today with this tournament the city remembers his great commitment.”

“The 1970s,’ says the president of the society Marco Vignola - for the loanese minibasket, represented an unrepeatable period and, all of basketball Italy, knew exactly where the Loano club was located. Great honor, in those years competing, with technical balance, against teams from A-list nurseries. The well-known fellow citizen Lino Lardo, for example, emblem of the minibasket of those years, was already a “small” (even in centimeters) phenomenon and, his technical numbers astounded the opposing teams. Today our minibasket center counts about 60 members that retrace the same places where the Master taught mini-basketball to Loano children, and we therefore trust our children to emulate, with their passion that golden period.

Our commitment is always to give moments of healthy sports competition, such as those of the Garassini Tournament, with many children from other Ligurian realities, sharing the great common passion of basketball, without exasperating some.”
