PRESS RELEASE (5/11/2013)
Friday, November 8, 2013, a Loano, at Cloister of St. Augustine, from the hours 9.00, will be held on the “Seduced and ... abandoned” conference” dedicated to the theme of pathological gambling organized by the Intervicarious Listening Center “the Meeting” and the’S.P.I.A. Association Pathways to Integrated and Applied Psychology with contributions from the’Department of Social Services of the City of Loano and the Finalese Social District 5.
He will be the Mayor of Loano, Luigi Pignocca, To kick off the training day CME for lawyers and social workers, along with Assessor Luca Lettieri and to the president of Finalese Social District 5, Gianmario Massazza.
“The conference on gambling," says Mayor Pignocca - is among the many initiatives that our municipality together with Distretto Sociale 5 Finalese promotes as part of prevention policies.”
“The goal," explains Councillor Lettieri - is to bring attention to a condition that carries a high risk of loss of control and addiction, with sometimes dramatic impact on both the gambler and the family.”
The conference was created with the intention of creating an opportunity for in-depth discussion with those in the area who can form a support network for those facing the problem of pathological gambling.
Over the past few years, Loano's Intervicarial Listening Center “The Meeting” has recorded an increasing number of requests for financial help for gambling-related problems. The phenomenon has highlighted the cross-cutting nature of the problem by social class, gender, and age and has, likewise, highlighted the futility of direct responses solely to the individual applicant.
Gambling is too often still counted among vices or bad habits in reality it is a real disease that, to be addressed, needs the awareness of all those involved: the gambler, his or her family, support groups and social agencies.
On the occasion of the conference, the photo exhibition will be set up in the Cloister of St. Augustine. “Through the Looking Glass” by Alexander Gimelli.
