PRESS RELEASE (08/19/2013)

Tuesday, August 20, a Loano, to the 9:30 pm, will be staged in the’Summer Arena Prince's Garden, “Bolero Candor and passion with Grace Galante and the Almatanz Company.

The show, sponsored by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano e organized by the I.So THeatre with the artistic direction of Luca Malvicini, is a gala that takes a journey through the expressiveness of modern and contemporary dance and by liberating movement expresses the infinite nuances of human beings and the world. In a multiplicity of different languages, each artist creates his or her own code to communicate. La Almatanz Company accompanies the Etoile of the great choreographer Maurice Bejart, Grace Galante, who will be performing the choreographies that the Master created especially for her: “Light” and “Dyonisos.”.

The Bolero, one of the most fascinating Spanish folk dances known as early as the late 1700s, has origins and etymology that are not entirely certain. In the classical version it is set in a tavern, where a gypsy woman performing on a table slowly makes those present fall into ecstasy. Ravel composed the Bolero for Ida Rubinstein in 1928 and described it thus, “It is a dance of moderate and constantly uniform movement, both in melody and rhythm, the latter being marked constantly by the drum. The only element of diversity is the orchestral crescendo.” Everything plays on the characteristic repetitiveness of the score, with progressive entrances of the instruments until the final climax from the unexpected crescendo. These “18 minutes of orchestra without music” (Ravel), have stimulated the imagination and creativity of many choreographers over the past 60 years.

Famous is the edition of Maurice Bejart 1961 that had great performers including. Grace Galante. The Maestro's unparalleled Bolero, has become part of the genetic heritage of the dancers who have danced it: there is no resisting Bolero, it has the ability to enter people's lives, to strike the senses, to pass the skin, to enter the blood, to reach the cells even farther than heart and brain. Maurice Bejart's choreography is abstract: Grazia Galante plays Melody and around it the corps de ballet represents Rhythm, which in a crescendo comes to a climax and engulfs Melody.
