PRESS RELEASE (16/08/2013)
Saturday, August 17, at Loano, 9:30 p.m., the Giardino del Principe Summer Arena will host the musical “The Wall Live Tribute”, promoted by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano e organized by the I.So THeatre with the artistic direction of Luca Malvicini and produced by Rockopera.
A show with band, singers and choir based on Pink Floyd's concept album “The Wall,” “The Wall Live Band” is much more than a tribute show, it is a concert performance in which strictly live music and lights come together in a highly original and impressive blend. The project of staging a live show of The Wall took off on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the release of the band's landmark record. The record “The Wall” was released on November 30, 1979, and preceded by a week by the single “Another Brick In The Wall,” which quickly reached No. 1 worldwide and was banned by the regimes of South Africa and North Korea for its anti-authoritarian message. The success of the 33 rpm was equally great, and currently an estimated 30 million copies have been sold.
“The Wall,” the concept album re-released today, exactly thirty years after the release of the film directed by Alan Parker, has an extraordinary impact. Pink the protagonist deals with themes such as loneliness, loss, war, alienation, success, which merge as in a kaleidoscope with today's issues, in the age of crisis and globalization, of rapid changes, climatic and political. Here the monumental rock opera wears a new, universal and topical guise. An impressive live orchestration, with the contribution offered by more than seventy elements on stage, enhance the mixture of rock and classical that takes us back to the origins: “The Wall,” contamination of the sacred with the profane. Live video direction, replayed on the big screen, adds emotion and brings the audience closer to the performances of the musicians and performers.
The Wall is a concept album, a true rock opera, and the resulting story is that of Pink, a rock star who during a grueling tour is consuming his relationship with his wife. In the long days spent in solitude in an anonymous hotel room between concerts, Pink, in a vain attempt to get in touch with his wife, evokes the ghosts of his existence, the death of his father in the war, his difficult childhood caught between his mother's over-protective attitude and indoctrination by psychopathic professors. Symbolically, Pink's existential difficulties and traumas are portrayed as bricks that go to build a wall of isolation that drive him away from reality, to complete isolation. Eventually Pink will introspectively deal with his traumas until the wall falls down, bringing him back into direct contact with his peers.
