Friday, August 9, in the’Prince's Garden Summer Arena, will close the review dedicated to opera, promoted by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano and organized by the I.So THeatre.
At 9 p.m., the’Return to the Opera Association will present “Selected pages from The Bohème” of Giacomo Puccini with musical direction and piano accompaniment by Maestro Bill Doherty.
Artistic director of the Central Florida Lyric Opera in Orlando, Doherty founded the’International Opera Center of America under the patronage of former U.S. President George Bush. He has collaborated with numerous artists including the greatest singers of the New York Metropolitan Opera. Inspired by the novel by Henri Murger, “Scènes de la vie de bohème,” the libretto had a fairly laborious gestation, due to the difficulty of adapting the situations and characters of the original text to the rigid patterns and framework of a musical opera. Instead, the orchestration of the score proceeded expeditiously and was completed in December 1895. Less than two months later, in February 1896, La bohème was premiered at the Teatro Regio in Turin, conducted by the twenty-nine-year-old maestro Arturo Toscanini, to good public acclaim, while the official critics, who proved rather hostile at first, soon had to fall in line with the general consensus.
The staging, curated by the’Return to the Work Association, provides for a narrated presentation of the most significant moments of the story and interpretation of the most famous songs. Mimi will be played by Andra Erbar, Musetta from Noema Grass, the poet Rodolfo, by Ugo Tarquini, the painter Marcello da Ryan Slone, the musician Schaunard by Teddy Tyrrel, the philosopher Colline from Sam Reynolds, Alcindoro from Andrea Riva.
Accompanying the performance of the works on the piano will be the M° Bill Doherty, the narrative voice will be from the M° Andrea Elena.
