Saturday, August 3, a Loano 9:30 p.m., in the Prince's Garden Summer Arena. will be staged on the greatest musical of all time, Jesus Christ Superstar.
The staging is part of the music program sponsored by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano e organized by the I.So THeatre with the artistic direction of Luca Malvicini.
On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the release of the film by Norman Jewison, the Rockopera and Metropolis companies, in collaboration with Leg and BCManagement, bring in Jesus Christ Superstar scene. The musical - produced in the original language with Italian subtitles - will feature over 80 artists including musicians, singers, dancers for a performance that “rediscovers” the original musical score as it was conceived in the 1970s by the very young Andrew Lloyd Webber. The performance is produced under license from the English publisher “The Really Useful Group” of London.
The hallmark of this staging is the fidelity to the original work maintained in the style of the characters, their interpretations, the settings, and the events that tell a story that is, to say the least, thrilling and has always been able to engage a cross-section of audiences of all ages.
With Jesus Christ Superstar, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber brought a modern play to life through their successful attempt to combine cultured music and rock. The opera narrates the last week of Jesus' life before his crucifixion, through the point of view of Judas. The main protagonists of the scene are four characters: Jesus is a figure who has much that is human and little or nothing that is divine, due to his ability to manifest in the face of death the doubts and fear characteristic of human thought; Judas, narrator of the work, rational and consistent, not a traitor but a victim despite himself, like his master, of a design of fate greater than himself; Mary Magdalene - Susanna Pellegrini - star of hit musicals such as “Mamma Mia!”, “The Betrothed” and “Snow White”-represents the sweetest femininity, invested with immense love that she cannot comprehend. Finally, Pontius Pilate, an emblematic figure with a complex personality.
“Forty years ago”- explain the directors Emiliano Galigani and Mara Mazzei – composers have given us eternal and universally recognized music. Real milestones in the history of music. But in Jesus Christ Superstar, what is striking is the extreme modernity of the characters, whose anxieties and fears are within the reach of us all. Tim Rice's lyrics, a true jewel within the masterpiece, outline characters who have always been known, such as Judas, Jesus, Mary Magdalene, Pilate, but reveal them from a new, extremely human, tormented perspective: this is precisely what makes them so close, what makes us love them. The great themes are not only the religious ones, but the common ones, of love, friendship, betrayal. Therefore, we wanted to tackle, both musically and interpretatively, a rigorous staging, in which we tried to emphasize the peculiarity and beauty of a masterpiece that never ceases to enchant. “
